Support the Girls was created to support breast cancer fighters and survivors living in the Grande Prairie area, by offering understanding and education to those in discovery and diagnosis; recognition and support for those fighting during treatment; and celebration of those powerful women who are survivors of breast cancer.
Victoria’s Attic, a staple of Grande Prairie business, has reached its 25-year milestone. Owner Alison Gustafson wants to continue this legacy by giving back to the community that has supported her - in a meaningful and ongoing capacity. A large portion of clientele at Victoria’s Attic are breast cancer fighters and survivors, and through building relationships with these clients, Alison has realized the struggles women go through and support they need while battling this disease.
Proceeds from "Support the Girls" will go directly to “The Attic”, a specially designed waiting room for Mammography and Biopsy patients, so that these women can wait in a comfortable, spa-like atmosphere that will be considerably less clinical than any average hospital waiting room. When "The Attic" opens at the new Grande Prairie hospital, patients will have the opportunity to wait in a comfortable, serene and warm area with soul soothing elements, soft fabrics and comfortable garments. We hope that "The Attic" will make our girls’ many trips to the hospital a bit more enjoyable, a bit less clinical, and a whole lot more supportive. We want them to feel like they have the support of their entire community.
The goal for Support the Girls is to raise $100,000 for the Hospital Foundation over the next 5 years.
